Want to learn about keeping snakes as pets? Then, unless you're Indiana ("I hate snakes!") Jones, this video is for you. Getting Started With Snakes, though low-budget and occasionally repetitive, provides a comprehensive introduction to the world of keeping reptiles as pets. Host Doug Eggleston makes it crystal clear which snakes make suitable pets (and which don't), offers guidance on snake habitats and diet, and takes viewers through additional topics such as veterinary care, breeding, and places to turn for more information. Although nearly two hours might seem like a long time to spend on the subject, a viewer just learning about snakes will surely appreciate this solid, detailed guide. A good video for young wannabe pet owners (and their potentially squeamish parents), this is recommended. Just don't forget to hide the gerbils, cats and smaller siblings before bringing home the snake. [Note: This tape is also being sold to individuals for $19.95.] Aud: P. (S. Fisher)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
