Many of today's family heirloom quilts are based on quilt block designs by Nancy Page, which were regularly printed in newspapers during the 1920s and '30s. This 3-video series looks at the historic background of the blocks, examines several historic quilts made up from those patterns, and gives ideas on updating Page's classic Grandmother's Garden. Using both piecing and appliqué techniques, the quilt created here is more elaborate than many of host Eleanor Burns' trademarked "Quilt in a Day" patterns, sporting seventeen different flower designs, from roses to bleeding hearts to violets. If the quilt sounds sweet and old-fashioned, well...it is. Burns is known for her innovative time-saving techniques and she (and her sister, who also appears in this series) give modern quilters the advantage of every known shortcut. Although some viewers' nerves may be worn down by the shrill timbre of the women's voices, this tape set is still highly recommended for public libraries for its rich instructional material at a very modest price. Other titles available in the Quilt in a Day series include: Christmas Quilts & Crafts (3 video set, $39.95), Stars Across America (3 video set, $39.95) and Rail Fence Quilt ($14.95). Aud: P. (R.
