Grandparenting: Enriching Lives

Maya Angelou hosts this look at a variety of grandparent-grandchild relationships, focusing on the traditional role of grandparents as sometimes-sitters, sometimes-helpers, or geographically remote but loving elders. “Grand” advice includes creating a special role for yourself; communicating and playing with your grandchild; sharing your own interests, family history, and culture with the little ones; respecting your adult child's parenting style; and keeping up with recent trends in child growth and development. Real-life grandparents share stories of how they keep up with their distant grandchildren via e-mail, regular mail, scrapbooks, telephone, and videos.
