Folk singer John Gorka is famous for his lyric "I'm from New Jersey, it's like Ohio, but even more so..." Still, I think you can find unique things in your own backyard if you have the eye and sensibility to look for something different. Every place has it's own distinct flair, even the Garden State. In Jersey we might find a few unique attractions like, say, The Abandoned Auto Show, The Individually Wrapped Cheese Slices Factory Tour or the Tomb of The Unknown Tollbooth Attendant. Sadly, you'd never know there was anything special about South Jersey from this video. What makes a travelogue like this one really dull is seeing the same old things you've already seen 100 times in other travel tapes: handheld home video of aquariums, horse races, insignificant monuments, obscure historical museums, glass blowing demonstrations and the like. Note: after 45 minutes of watching the stupefying shots of dazed tourists wandering through tourist sites, I went over to the map and confirmed my worst suspicions, the video almost completely leaves out Atlantic City--the most unique destination in South Jersey and one of the most popular on the Eastern Seaboard! On the other hand, it did include a "thrilling" and "deeply suspenseful" five minute shot of the lowering of the American flag on Sunset Beach to the sound of "God Bless America." Ho hum. Not recommended. Aud: P. (R. Ray)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
