“Is our planet getting warmer? And are we the cause?” The even-toned and solidly produced Greenhouse Effect answers both of these questions in the affirmative, backed by an articulate, step-by-step presentation of data. The program initially looks at the “natural” greenhouse effect—caused by various gasses trapped in the earth's atmosphere—before examining the “enhanced greenhouse effect,” brought about by human activities (the burning of fossil fuels, etc.), which has resulted in climate shifts worldwide. After making this straightforward case, the film explores the potential consequences of global warming, while also discussing solutions related to reducing emissions and stabilizing the atmosphere. The DVD also includes the option to watch an “advanced” version of the presentation that features more in-depth material regarding ice-core analysis and greenhouse gasses, as well as extra segments on ocean acidification and geosequestration. Boasting fantastic cinematography and an excellent script, Greenhouse Effect favors an objective look at scientific data over finger-pointing or fear-mongering. Highly recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P.
