While the retirement age for most people is still 65, thanks to advances in healthcare the "golden years" are expanding, and it's no longer uncommon for people to--just like Bob Hope--reach the age of 100. In the coming years, most families will need to address the issue of long term care at some point. Guide to Long Term Care Insurance with Phyllis Shelton, one of nine videos in "The Caregiver Resource Library" collection, advises consumers on what to look for and avoid when purchasing long term care insurance policies, while also outlining the specific hardships a family might face if long term care is not available--leaving a job to attend to aging parents, for example, or taking on a tremendous financial burden (according to seminar presenter Phyllis Shelton, the average annual cost of nursing home care is $60,000--a figure that is expected to triple in the next 20 years). Although the presentation is a bit dry, and one has to remain aware that Shelton is a consultant who teaches agents how to "sell" long term care insurance policies (meaning she has a somewhat vested interest), the issues here are important for families with aging parents to think about. A strong optional purchase. Other titles in the series include Respite Care, Separated by Time and Distance and Voices From the Trenches. Aud: C, P. (J. Asala)
