Guided Reading tackles illiteracy from the standard front line: the classroom. Educator Judith Young suggests ways that teachers can use "guided reading," a set of strategies which encourage individual student self-monitoring while taking advantage of the time-saving aspects of working with small groups. Real-time demonstrations of sessions with emergent, early fluent, and fluent readers provide hands-on training, while underscoring the importance of using a tailored program for different types of readers. A relatively low-budget production (the children are often hard to hear), the program would have benefited from tighter editing and an accompanying manual. Still, elementary school instructors might find this useful. An optional purchase. Aud: K, E, I. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
