Yes, friends, there are gypsy musicians other than Django Reinehardt. One such, Ian Cruikshank, is here to teach viewers how to pluck a plectral lute in that romantic and rich gypsy style popularized by the master. Like most titles from Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop, the instruction here is delivered clearly and patiently, while the music (within the confines of an instructional as opposed to a concert video) is a joy and--naturally--masterfully played. Technically, the production attributes are dandy, and the program includes a tablature/music booklet (that won't fit inside the slipcase). Recommended for its truly fine instruction, rather than the processing conundrum it presents for libraries that strive to circulate booklet and video in tandem and keep them together over time. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
