Los Angeles-based floral designers and sisters Kit and Casey Coleman cover the basics of European-style hand-tied flower bouquets in this half-hour instructional program that shows how to lay out, angle, and bind attractive bunches of blooms. The ladies tell how to choose the best fresh flowers and greenery (illustrated by a visit to their preferred wholesale florist) and how to clean and condition the plants (including rehydrating the stems). Featured are three variations on the theme: a pink centerpiece with spray roses and alstroemeria; a bridal bouquet made up of rice flowers, tulips, and peonies; and a tall organic bouquet using snapdragons and Asian lilies (with a tip on removing pollen from the lilies). Also including onscreen text hints and suggestions (such as using paint samples to match desired color schemes), the program suffers from some minor awkward editing choices and occasionally choppy audio. Still, this is a strong optional purchase for collections without similar fare. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
