Laura Bollenbach is the host for this introductory course in training your dog on the leash to heel, stand, lay down, and sit. Viewers are also shown how to call your dog, walk him through figure eights, and respond to changes of pace. While the information, which includes proper collars, recommended ages for training, house breaking advice, and tips on raising a puppy, is very good; the overall quality of the tape is marginal at best. Although much of the outdoor training has a dubbed-over voice, beginning sections use an on-camera narrator. Background noises are frequent, and an annoying breeze is blowing over what--judging from the picture quality--appears to be a basic camcorder. In addition, there were a good handful of dropouts. Since there are a number of professional quality, inexpensive dog training tapes already on the market, there's no reason to consider this one. Not recommended. (Available from: Alymer Press, P.O. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
