Except for the rather weird title, this annual video guide to Washington, D.C. is an excellent, inexpensive, current, and non-commercial overview of the city. Beginning with advice on getting from the airports into the city (cab fares, bus routes, Amtrak services, etc.), the program continues with an explanation of the Metro system and other in-city transportation options before showing and talking about the sights: museums, shopping, the tour of the Capital and historic landmarks, and the real focus--restaurants, night life, and theaters. Dining establishments are discussed in terms of price and quality, while nightclubs are grouped by clientele ("young professional," for example) and music. The program concludes with phone numbers for the park service, visitor's information center, Smithsonian Institution, etc. (also included on the map/brochure accompanying the video). It could have been longer (hopefully future editions will include a reference to the public library), but for a quick up-to-date survey, this is an excellent choice. Highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
