Ayurveda, the 3000-year-old art of healing that addresses the root causes of illness, is the guiding principle used to create different skin and hair care beauty regimens for three “doshas,” or personality types: “vata” (creative, delicate, and excitable), “pitta” (intense, passionate, and hotheaded), and “kapha” (nurturing and compassionate). Viewers are shown how to make and apply various lotions and potions (some of the natural ingredients called for are coconut oil, sesame oil, cloves, basil, and clarified butter), and although the “simple rituals” described here for bathing and massage seem fairly time-consuming, I suspect that those who try them will indeed look and feel more relaxed. Beautifully filmed on location in the Himalayas, Inner Beauty (which features Reenita Malhotra Hora, author of the book of the same name) is likely to be popular in libraries where natural health and beauty titles circulate well. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
