Interviewing for a Job is a good, basic introduction for the job seeker, which emphasizes the Boy Scout motto: "Be prepared." Beginning with an overview of the general qualities interviewers are looking for (maturity, ability, willingness, etc.), the program advises prospective job seekers to do a self-evaluation, research potential employers, prepare a good resume, and follow simple guidelines during the interview process. The tape concludes with suggestions on following up on an interview. Power Interviewing, hosted by professional employment recruiter Patrick j. Atkinson, takes a slightly different tack, offering an insider's view of the hiring process. While the information presented is primarily the same as in Interviewing for a Job, there are more detailed suggestions included here. Following the four main areas (resume, research and preparation, the interview, and the follow-up), the program presents the views of interviewers, as they respond to questions about what they're looking for in an employee, what makes for a good interview, and what are the most common reasons for failure during an interview. Both programs are good general introductions to the subject, with Interviewing for a Job the more polished of the pair, and Power Interviewing, the more detailed in its presentation. For libraries who need more programming in this area, both tapes are recommended. (See DATING IN THE 90'S for availability of Interviewing for a Job.) (Power Interviewing is available from: Waterford Production Group, 14 N. 1st Ave., St. Charles, IL 60174.)
