Made by upholstery professionals Jocus Upholstery, these two tapes offer good information in substandard productions. Introduction to Reupholstery and Recovering is the more problematic of the pair. A low-budget production, the program is designed to get viewers "familiar with the mechanics of upholstered furniture," but the washed-out video, poor editing (shots are held much too long for the brief voice-over narration), and arbitrary organization of the material make this program of limited usefulness to general audiences. The instruction jumps from an introduction to tools, to replacing the nosing on a chair, to fixing a broken spring on an ottoman, and so on, with no bridging explanation, and after two hours simply ends on an abrupt note.Reupholstering a Wing Chair, on the other hand, offers somewhat better production values, and a focused approach to a specific subject. Viewers learn how to strip and reupholster a Queen Anne wing chair from start to finish. Still, the presentation is obviously low-budget, though to the point. The professionals at Jocus Upholstery, who clearly know their business, would have done better with the aid of a professional writer, and a good production company.Introduction to Upholstery and Recovering is not recommended. Reupholstering a Wing Chair is an optional purchase. Other titles available include: Cushions & Pillows, Dinette Seats, and Ottoman. (Available from: Tomlen Jr. Inc., P.O.
