It's hard to imagine a public library that would not want this title: three hours long, with projects ranging from scatter pillows to the tear-down and re-upholstery of a large club chair, plus an informative 32-page booklet--this is as good an introduction to the subject as you will find and the price is reasonable, too. Professional upholsterer Monte Wright clearly shows how to construct a window valance, upholster a headboard, re-cover dining room chairs, and manage a variety of repairs such as gluing, rewebbing, and spring tying. One of the nicest features (and one which other how-to video producers should emulate) is the addition of project "icons" in the upper right of the screen for easy access. While someone with sewing skills will be able to follow the instruction more easily than those without, viewing and re-viewing should help walk complete novices through the projects. The booklet also includes helpful suggestions when considering fabric types, a chart for estimating yardage needed, and a handy glossary. More extreme close-ups would have been welcomed but, in general, the detail work is well-done. Very highly recommended for public libraries and strongly recommended for high schools with home economics and vocational education classes. Aud: H, P. (R. Reagan)
