Greg Liposky, a chartered financial consultant is the host for this introduction to the world of mutual fund investments. Beginning with a look at fundamental investment issues (the differences between stocks and bonds, the element of risk, and how money grows over time), Liposky goes on to define what mutual funds are and how they are administered, describes the nine types of mutual funds available (ranging from the money market mutuals to the international mutual funds), explains key concepts (such as dollar cost averaging, market timing, and compound interest), and points out the important items to look for on a prospectus. The information contained in the program is good, accurate, plentiful, and relatively easy to follow (and includes a number of helpful graphs and graphics to illustrate key points). The only drawback to the presentation is that Mr. Liposky is a little uncomfortable as a presenter and comes across as a bit less polished than the actors who usually host this type of program. This aside, Investing in Mutual Funds is a very good introduction to the subject, and is recommended. (Available from: Moving Pictures Home Video, 59 Park Rd., Colchester, CT 06415; (203) 278-7886.)
