Talk about multitasking--for those of us who take power naps while stuck in traffic, or talk on a cell phone sitting in the restroom--Iron Yoga combines the sublime, ancient art of yoga with something dumb: as in dumbbells. Anthony Carillo (Ironman World Champion and triathlete) adds hand-weights to traditional yoga poses for a “two-fer” in this workout program designed to strengthen muscles while controlling breath and balance. The thinking goes something like this: if you're going to wrap your legs around your head anyway, why not add a couple of dumbbells to the mix and flex those lazy triceps that are just hanging around looking bored? A calm, soft-spoken teacher, Carillo presents 25 basic yoga positions here, incorporating traditional yoga concerns--proper breathing and form, holding poses, etc.--with the use of light hand weights (while also presenting modified instruction and more challenging poses for advanced viewers). DVD extras include a guided relaxation segment. Recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
