Kari Anderson's credentials are impressive: named A.C.E.'s “Fitness Director of the Year” and I.D.E.A.'s “Instructor of the Year,” she's also been praised by Consumer Digest and called “one of the best things to come out of Seattle besides coffee.” It's a bit of a mystery why Anderson hasn't reached household-name-fitness-superstardom like the Denise Austins and Kathy Smiths of the genre, as she's an excellent instructor, presenting here creatively choreographed routines in a production that is both stylish and perfectly suited to the material. The fluid workout Reach features a combination of modified yoga poses, Pilates, and dance, organized into three chapters: a 30-minute “Standing Work” section featuring lots of plies and dance moves for balance, strength, flexibility, and good posture; a 20-minute “Floor Work” segment designed for full body toning, with squats, side planks, push-ups, tummy crunches, and back extensions; and a closing 10-minute cool-down. Apparently Anderson lives in Seattle and continues to teach classes in the area—maybe I can convince the editor of VL to invite her over to lead a morning workout (Starbucks is on me). Highly recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
