Some day we'll be reviewing Brain Surgery for Fun and Profit, hosted by two world renowned doctors, and I'll feel compelled to remind viewers that watching the video will not make them experts on brain surgery. This program, hosted by world kickboxing champions Kathy Long and Jim Graden is an exercise tape; watching this video will not change your name to Jackie Chan and get you into the movies. Here, Long shows viewers a few fundamental kickboxing moves, such as the hook punch, knee kick, and elbow spike, along with actual fight clips demonstrating the technique (though to my untrained eye it looked like your basic hit-fest free-for-all). After basic training, Graden takes over the actual workout like a friendly high-powered drill sergeant taking us through the killer maneuvers, bobbing and weaving in a hard rock dance-a-thon. Both hosts are amiable, and obviously very capable instructors, but people mustn't assume that watching this tape will give them anything more than a good workout. Recommended. (N. Plympton)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
