"Auditioning can be a tough process," says L.A. acting coach J.P. Pierce at the beginning of Killer Monologues. "You don't want to get out there and die, you want to get out there and kill." And this tape makes that happen. Featuring some extremely talented young actors perfecting the delivery of some very dynamic and exciting onscreen monologues (also written by director Pierce), this video differs from so many other tapes in this genre, in that it focuses on the passion and instincts of the actor, rather than reciting tips about how to prepare a resume or a head shot. Urging his young players to find something worth fighting for in every line, Pierce shows that comedy and dramatic monologues often require similar approaches, and coaches his charges to use silence to their advantage, play against emotion, select good material (such as memorable or controversial scenes) and remember that good monologues are meant to be watched, not heard. Even if you live far from Hollywood and have no real interest in acting, this is still worthwhile viewing--not only does it teach the viewer to be a good actor, it also teaches us all how to be better storytellers. Highly recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (R. Ray)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
