The four latest releases in the Cookbook Videos series (Basic Cakes, Savory Veal Dishes, Easy Pasta Dishes, and Lamb Chops) brings the total to 23. We took a look at the lamb chops tape, and immediately noticed the improved picture quality over earlier titles in the series (see VL, Vol. 3, No. 5 for review). Hosted by Chef Harold Alexander, this step-by-step guide shows viewers the four basic cuts: shoulder, blade, rib, and the "king of lamb chops"- the loin. Six different recipes are presented, including: New Zealand Style Chops, Stuffed Loin Chops, Bleu Cheese Chops, and Marmalade Chops. Each entry is preceded by the recipe, then Chef Alexander, in real-time whenever possible, prepares the dishes. Some of the program is repetitive (the fat is trimmed for each and every cut), but the presentation is straightforward and solid. Prices drop as more tapes are purchased, so that 6-11 selections brings the per tape cost down to $12, and 12 or more selections will run $11.25 each. Recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
