While I've always considered "butthead" to be a figurative term, in the case of land snails the description is literal: land snails have an anal opening on the side of the head...and that's not all. Gastropoda (literally "belly-foot") can crawl over a razor blade without a scratch (thanks to the slime they ooze), are hermaphrodites (during sex, both partners swap sperm), and--like the proverbial B.E.M.'s (bug-eyed monsters) in 50's sci-fi flicks--have eyeballs at the end of their antennae (like Robert Bly, they see poorly; but they're very good at touchy-feely). Although Klaudiusz Jankowski's film is definitely old-school-no graphics, splashy or otherwise; no drum machine; no anthropomorphizing (just the facts), Land Snails and Their Life Cycle held my attention. Recommended, with reservations, because it may be too expensive a nature film for public libraries and too non-MTV-ish for most school audiences...but, like I said, it's definitely interesting. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
