Some 36 million tourists visit Las Vegas annually, spending the majority of their time (and money) on a 4.6 mile stretch of highway known simply as The Strip, home to the colorful mega-casino-hotels such as Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, and The Venetian. In this entry from Globe Trekker's Destination City Guide series, host Ian Wright initially walks a well-worn path, bouncing from gambling tables to buffets (none of which will be new to those familiar with Sin City), before taking a few interesting detours, such as a humorous look at a pole dancing exercise class, a peek at the Miss Senior America contest (with 33 finalists over the age of 60), a tour of the Atomic Testing Museum, and a day trip (by plane) to the Grand Canyon for some hiking. Of course, no guide to Lost Wages would be complete without the usual touchstones—or rhinestones, in the case of the Liberace Museum—so viewers can expect to see a couple of wedding ceremonies (one drive-thru, the other on the bridge of the USS Enterprise at Star Trek: The Experience), as well as Elvis sightings (props to Wright for going skydiving with a group called the Flying ELVI—plural for the King). DVD extras include text travel tips, an image gallery, and contact information for the sights along Wright's route. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
