Illusionist Lyn Dillies reveals some of the tricks of the trade in this program aimed at ages 7 and up. For each of the 11 bits of magic presented here, Dillies demonstrates the trick, reveals the secret behind the move, explains how to assemble and prepare the illusion, and then offers tips on how to correctly (and smoothly) perform for the audience. Nearly every trick here features simple household and craft items (such as scissors, crayons, glue, paper bags, plastic cups, etc.). Some of the coolest ones include “Magic Ribbon” (the secret lies in the use of talcum powder), “Mindreading Crayons,” the “Tricky Lollipop Trick,” and a “Dime Go” disappearing act. Learn Magic with Lyn is a fast-paced production with upbeat music, and Dillies is a positive and patient instructor, guiding viewers (along with three ‘tween helpers) through the ins and outs of her craft, while also touching on six rules (related to practice, managing the flow of the routine, and--of course--having fun). During the closing credits, viewers will see the professional magician at work in her real live show—making elephants suddenly appear and such. An enchanting instructional program that should appeal to budding magic enthusiasts or those just looking for an antidote to rainy day boredom, this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
