Ah, the dreaded software upgrade. Although many of the changes to this popular Microsoft Office suite application (also available stand alone) are enhancements of existing features (and more stability under the hood), many users can be bamboozled by Word 2000's new look and feel, which is why a video like this can help ease old and new users alike into getting some work done. In addition to pointing out the new features of Word 2000, such as the very useful clipboard that tracks a number of cut-and-paste operations, this program reviews Word's classic time-saving functions as well, such as the indispensable "find and replace" command (useful anytime, for instance, when you've misspelled a word a number of times in a long document) and on-the-fly spell check. The one section that the program probably could have left out (or at least minimized) is on using Word as a web page editor. Word is not a hallmark of good web composition, and the producers commit the bad-design sin of showcasing an HTML style (the marquee tag) that will only view correctly in a Microsoft browser. While the two primary hosts seem a little stiff, the information is solid, and the price is right. The other titles in the series (series price: $99.95) are: Learn! Outlook 2000, Learn! Power Point 2000, and Learn! Excel 2000, each $29.95. Also available separately: Learn! FrontPage 2000 ($39.95) and Learn! Microsoft Works ($29.95). Aud: H, C, P. (C. Block)
