“Have I ever knitted with my tail? Many, many times. Not happily, though.” In case you were wondering, the tail is the piece of yarn at the end of the needle. Presenter Nenah Galati shows viewers how to keep the tail out of the way and addresses other beginner mistakes as she demonstrates the long-tail cast-on, knit stitch, purl stitch, and bind-off, as well as how to make a simple scarf, hat, and face/dish cloth with decreasing and increasing stitches. The solid camerawork includes close-ups as Galati performs the techniques step by step, reminding viewers that their first pieces might not be usable, while also encouraging them to enjoy the learning process. Unfortunately, the DVD layout is not optimum, since the disc features no “play all” option (and Galati introduces each chapter). Libraries should also be aware that the pattern instructions for the projects are included in a loose insert (i.e., not printable from the disc). [Note: also newly available is Sock I: How to Knit Socks on Two Circular Needles.] Optional. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
