L. E. McCullough (who composed some music for Michael Collins [VL-3/97]) teaches viewers how to play the traditional Irish tinwhistle, with instructions for holding the instrument, embouchure (or mouthing techniques) ornamentation (trills, rolls, and triplets), and a handful of airs, jigs, reels, and hornpipes. Although aimed at beginners, the program would be most useful to those already versed in reading music, as the fingering shown on the video is sometimes easy to see, sometimes not. With all things Irish currently receiving much media attention, this "how-to," which will get viewers producing lovely melodies on a simple but eloquent instrument, may well prove to be a popular addition. Recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (R. Pitman)
