Cartoonist and teacher Fred Maes is the host and instructor for this introduction to the art of cartooning. Following some opening commentary on how cartooning differs from other types of drawing, as well as what the purposes of cartooning are, Maes takes viewers on a tour of the basic (inexpensive) tools needed for getting started. The bulk of the program is devoted to the face: eyes, noses, mouth. Here is where the cartoonist creates attitude. In addition, Maes shows viewers how to create "critters": dogs, cats, mice, and elephants. Although the musical soundtrack (which is not credited) is sometimes overbearing, Learning to Cartoon does offer a good introduction to the subject of cartooning and is recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
