Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw. You've read the book. You've seen them on the Griffin show. Let's face it: a more entertaining pair of biochemists simply could not be found on this or any other planet. Based on their best-selling book which showed people how they could live longer and healthier lives, the authors begin with a demonstration of the two key concepts of aging: free radical action and cross-linking. To do this, they visit a junkyard, and use the analogy of a broken-down car. Throughout, inventive illustrations are used to explain high-level biochemical concepts: the glycemic index for foods, thermogenesis, how antioxidants destroy the body's immune system, etc. Near the end, the authors make a strong case for the inefficiency of the FDA (it now takes approximately 125 million dollars and 8-12 years to license a new drug). And the identity of the infamous "Mr. Smith" in the book Life Extension is finally revealed: Clint "Make my day" Eastwood. A 12-page booklet is included with formulas for the vitamin and mineral supplements recommended by the authors (with appropriate cautions listed). In addition to the specifics of the life extension program, there is a good deal of undisputed general health information here. Highly recommended. (See BOWL YOUR BEST GAME for availability)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
