Providing tips for helping family members who've lost a loved one through suicide, this brief program (part of a two-volume set--the other included title is Journey Through the Shadows) features interviews with female suicide survivors, as well as two counselors in suicidology and suicide prevention, who tackle some of the complex issues surrounding suicide as they briefly relate what they've found to be helpful in their collective experience. An accompanying booklet covers some of the tips outlined in the video and includes a list of resources and organizations related to suicide. While a more involved discussion of the causes and prevention of suicide would have been welcome (just as interviews with surviving men, children or adolescents would have broadened its scope), the program's specific focus on helping suicide survivors will still make this a useful addition to hospital libraries and public libraries with larger health collections. Recommended, with reservations. Aud: P. (A. Cantú)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
