Once again, the good folks over at Videomaker magazine have cobbled together segments from their TV show into a thematic bundle and this time, overall, the result is both informative and eminently affordable. Publisher/Editor Matt York and several other Videomaker staffers take camcorder enthusiasts on a tip-filled overview of lighting situations, beginning with a brief explanation of light, itself, and the two-word reason for the age-old mystery of why indoor shots following outdoor shots have the general appearance of month-old cream cheese (forgetting to reset "white balance"). In addition, the program covers both daytime and nighttime techniques for indoor and outdoor shooting. Although no one will mistake the cinematography (or for that matter the lighting techniques) for Sven Nykvist's, this video gets the job done. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
