In 1974, WCET-TV launched a half-hour PBS-aired physical-and-mental health program entitled Lilias, Yoga and You. A quarter century-plus later, Lilias Folan--the undisputed Queen of Yoga--is still doing daily what you and I have yet to accomplish once: bending over and resting her palms on the floor while keeping her knees straight. Fortunately, Cardio Challenge is aimed at beginners--no scratching your head with your foot or resting one cheek (facial) on another (buttocks). Here, Folan takes viewers through the 12 postures of the Sun Salutation series, first slowly, then with a little more speed, to achieve a brisk--though never taxing--cardiovascular yoga workout. Offering proof positive that you don't need to be a 99 lb. 19-year-old named Valerianroot in order to productively practice yoga, Lilias is an inspiring teacher, whose love, devotion and enthusiasm for her subject will encourage viewers to dip their toes into the yoga wellspring, limbering up the body and calming the mind. The other titles in Lilias' Flowing Postures for Beginners series are: Arms & Abs, Legs & Buns and Serenity Now. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
