Although the look of this 1985 program is a little dated, Little League's Official How-to-Play Baseball DVD does just about everything for the aspiring Little Leaguer except actually take the field in his stead. Writer-director Peter Kreutzer breaks down the fundamentals of play in 19 chapters studded with valuable tips on batting, pitching, fielding, bunting, and playing each position. Coaches present the information step-by-step with accompanying visuals perfectly illustrating the pointers being discussed. In addition, the program emphasizes the value of teamwork and sportsmanlike conduct—a necessary part of any athletic-based instruction in this era of escalating violence (involving both children and parents) on diamonds across the country. The DVD is available separately, or bundled together with a 210-page quality 1990 paperback based on the program, written by Kreutzer and Ted Kerley. Given the official cachet of Little League, this sure to be popular title is definitely recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
