What do Iggy Pop and Eminem have in common? Both learned to warm up their vocal chords with an ascending and descending five-note scale taught by vocal coach Roger Love, whose other students have included Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas and pop star Mandy Moore. In this video aimed at wannabe singers with some level of ability, Love enlists six students (representing a soul singer, female and male pop vocalists, and others) to help demonstrate his approach to great singing, combining exercises with tips to increase vocal volume and create better tone. Pointing out that singers actually have “three voices”--the chest voice, the head voice, and the “secret middle” voice (a combination of the other two), Love also maintains that good posture and disciplined breathing will enable singers to make the most of their vocal talent while avoiding pain and strain. In addition, he looks at diet do's and don'ts, different forms of vibrato, and how to transform stage fright into a stellar performance. Recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (C. Block)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
