When parents share reading experiences with their children, they reap numerous benefits, including connecting with kids and instilling in them an appreciation for books. Based on Carl B. Smth's program, this video encourages families to read aloud together (and ask questions), share their thoughts and feelings through writing in journals, and draw to communicate their understanding, say, of character. While the material is very similar (some sections are identical) to Parents as Tutors: Helping With Homework (VL-5/96), the focus here is more on making reading a family endeavor. A good, inspirational title with plenty of solid tips for parents. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
