Makeup artist Monique Powers hosts this instructional program designed to help viewers learn the ABCs (apply, blend, and create) of natural-looking makeup. Opening with disclaimers about possible allergies or injuries, Powers uses various products and tools, but offers reassurances that the information is not brand specific so that viewers can use their own makeup items. Working with four models, Powers demonstrates makeup techniques for face (including eyebrow grooming, toner, moisturizer, concealer, powder, and blush), eyes (with tips on eyeshadow, mascara, contour colors, and blending), and lips (with suggestions for maximizing or minimizing certain features), while also covering topics such as fake eyelash application. Powers is an amiable instructor (she does half of the face, while the participant does the other half), and the well-organized segments are easy-to-follow (I tested out the simple eyeshadow tricks at home, and received a compliment from a store cashier that same day!). Definitely recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
