Intended as a companion piece to the book of the same title, this program walks students step-by-step in module form through pre-algebra concepts. The presentation is bare-bones—each of the 44 lessons consist of just the voice of instructor extraordinaire Rick Fisher (a math teacher in the Oak Grove School District in San Jose, CA) and a whiteboard that fills with equations and formulas from the lesson materials as the program unfolds. The 20-minute segments begin with an introduction to sets and progress to working with integers, positive and negative decimals and fractions, exponents, square roots, number properties, scientific notation, ratios, proportions, percentages, number theory, graphing and solving equations, probability and statistics, and more, with word problems added along the way. Fisher, known as America's Math Teacher, has a great teaching style and he makes the simple format work. Also newly available in the series are Mastering Essential Math Skills: Book One—Grades 4-5 and Mastering Essential Math Skills: Book Two—Middle Grades/High School. Recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (C.
