Author and genealogical guru Maureen Taylor shares her tips and techniques for creating historically accurate and visually appealing heritage albums--or "family scrapbooks"--in this program that teaches viewers how to trace a family tree, create a sense of history in albums, safely preserve photos, use digital techniques and photo editing software, and locate material such as photographs and documents. While I did like many of her “example” pages, I really feel that her books (which I've seen) do a better job of presenting this material, as much of the time here is spent either with Taylor simply talking to the camera or having lists of ideas flashed across the screen (I also found her request not to use copyrighted images such as newspaper photos and text a bit odd; after all, scrapbooks are meant to be used within the family and aren't generally published for commercial use). Still, since many prefer visual instruction over print, this sure to be popular title should be considered a strong optional purchase. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
