In this barebones production, artist and educator Kim Kimerling demonstrates the art of monoprinting, which in this case involves using paints or inks to create a picture on a non-porous flat surface, before transferring onto another medium (usually paper), for one or two copies of a unique work. The process is challenging—requiring a steady hand and a keen sense of timing to ensure that your initial paint-job doesn't dry before you complete the transfer—and Kimerling does a fine job of presenting the craft (he's especially adept at talking while demonstrating the steps). That said, the production suffers from several major oversights: there's no real explanation of monoprinting here, no section on supplies, and no instruction on creating cutouts. Even so, this is still a strong optional purchase for larger arts and crafts collections. Aud: H, C, P. (K. Glaser)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
