Kristin McGee (featured in last year's MTV Yoga [VL Online-1/03]) is stretching here, not in a theatrical sense, but as an instructor in a burgeoning new exercise genre, the oxymoron-ish POWER yoga. Filmed atop Point Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort (honest, Mr. IRS-man, it's my JOB!) in Phoenix, Arizona, this visually stunning routine finds McGee and two other yogis providing beginner, intermediate, and advanced versions of a zen 'n' burn workout. While viewers will find the familiar warm-up stretches here, as well as common poses such as the sun salutation, warrior, and cobra stance, the "power" comes from the repetitions and speed. A pulsating soundtrack by Blue Six sets the house groove while McGee supplies tips on correct breathing techniques and proper form. DVD extras include a bonus Pilates floor demonstration and workout by McGee, text and picture index of various poses, an alternate audio-only instructor track, and brief text bios of McGee and her students. Given the MTV brand, and today's why-just-meditate-when-you can sweat-too multitasking audience, this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
