A kindergartner once asked me how old I was. When I told her 36, she replied, “That's my Granny's age!” On the other end of the spectrum are people (like my parents) who are in their mid-70s and expecting a new grandchild. This video for grandparents of all ages is from the same husband/wife pediatrician/nurse team who created Exercise with Daddy & Me (reviewed in VL-11/97) and Exercise with Mommy & Me, and consists of short, rather disparate segments, including an easy exercise routine, a “circle-time” of play songs/lullabies (which would have been greatly enhanced by musical accompaniment, as the participants have their own--differing--ideas of tempo and pitch), and a self-termed “rap session” (bet you haven't heard that phrase in years!) in which grandparents discuss various concerns. The final segment is the most important: a physical therapist offers advice on the best ways to lift, carry, and transport babies (in strollers). While not an advice program like the recommended Grandparenting: Enriching Lives (reviewed in VL-9/02), this might be a welcome addition for exercise collections in larger public libraries. Optional. As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
