This business tape gets off to a bad start by claiming that it is the first product to draw all the disparate threads of the job search into one comprehensive teaching package. It's like the old joke about the Mormon prophet Brigham Young arriving in Salt Lake City at the tail end of the caravan and, with most of the population already settled, announcing: "This is the place." The format for the program is both simple and annoying: a male and female sit at a table taking turns reading their lines for the camera. All of the basic steps in the new approach to the job search are covered here: self-evaluation, networking, preparing the resume, follow-up communication, and the job interview. While the would-be job seeker will glean a lot of basic information here, Interviewing With Confidence (reviewed April 1989) and Directing Your Successful Job Search (reviewed July-August 1990) are better choices. An additional drawback to this program, which makes it particularly unsuitable for public libraries is the form-filled enclosed manual. Not recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
