Although it is universally acknowledged that a "name celebrity" can make all the saleable difference in a "special interest" video, it doesn't necessarily mean that the program in question will be better because of the "star." A good case in point is this hybrid comedy/how-to for sufferers of aching backs. Dr. Leon Root and his former patient, special guest Chevy Chase, take turns reading cue cards and trading quips (Dr. Leon like a fish out of water, Mr. Chase like a friend doing a favor) about the anatomy of the back, do's and don't's for avoiding back problems, and suggested positions for sleeping and sex for people with back problems. The second half of the tape is an extended demonstration of some dozen exercises to help alleviate back pain. While there are good tidbits tucked in between the amateur comic repartee, and the exercises will certainly strengthen the lower back and help alleviate pain, there are better tapes on the subject available--that don't require viewers with suffering backs to also suffer through some rather painful "entertainment." An optional purchase. (Available from most distributors.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
