By trying to cover shopping for antiques at an auction and furniture restoration both in 30 minutes, instructor Norm Wobschall barely scratches the surface of either. The amiable Minnesotan Wobschall (whose accent will give you fond Fargo memories) spends the first half of the program attending an auction (which a little judicious editing could have reduced considerably) and the second half stripping and refinishing a nice chest with mirror combo (teaching only the bare basics). Viewers who want more detailed guides can try The Identification of Older & Antique Furniture (VL-11/94) which will be a lot more helpful in determining which items are really worth bidding for, and Furniture to Go: Furniture Restoration 1 (VL-1/97) for more detailed info on furniture restoration. Norm's Guide is not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
