On Line: The Internet

Have your patrons, tired of either the high-tech and/or "dummies" approach to videos about the Internet, been clamoring for something from a conservative British perspective? Especially one that is as much a travelogue of Northern California locales as it is about the infobahn? I didn't think so. These two elements make for an odd mix in this edition from the On Line series. While the spotlight on how Amnesty International has used its web efforts to reach inside China without electronically incriminating users there makes for a noble story (that might have made an interesting video in itself), the remaining balance of dated and sometimes technically questionable information (such as the claim that modem speeds will continue to double every eighteen months. Not bloody likely, mate!), metered out at a deadly slow pace, is not worth the asking price. Other titles in the series include: Telecommunications, Home Shopping and House of the Future. Aud: P. (C.
