The artistic premise presented here is interesting: people can learn to get in touch with their creative voices through "process painting," an artistic method that focuses on intuition rather than intellect. However, Outside the Lines doesn't really think outside the point-and-shoot box; instead, it attempts to capture the excitement of a group of people exploring their creativity during "a painting weekend" through perfunctory talking-head interviews and excruciatingly prolonged scenes of people slowly applying paint to canvas. Add to this an extremely thick accented commentary delivered at top speed, and the concept of a "creative weekend"--while exciting and intellectually stimulating in itself--tends to get rather lost in this ineffective video. Not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (K. G. Schneider)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
