The ubiquitous Palm OS (the operating system on handheld computers from Palm, Handspring, Sony, Kyocera, and others) can be daunting, regardless of whether you have just purchased your first PDA, or if you've, uh, “kinda used it” for years. While operations and tasks are simple and straightforward, there's actually a wealth of power hidden just under the units' (mostly) monochromatic hoods. Trainer Larry Becker, who apparently eats, breathes, and probably sleeps with his Palm, leads a seminar class (businessman, student, mom, pastor, teacher, construction worker, etc.) through a thorough overview of the operation of the Palm OS. Topics include exacting explanations of the calendar, contacts organizer, note-taking and the mysterious (and darn hard to master for some) “graffiti” function--i.e., the primary way of entering text via a pen-like stylus. Also covered in depth are transferring files and data (to a regular-sized computer or to other Palm users) via the infrared port (beaming) and direct cable connections. The only real quibble here is that this room full of bright, eager Palm users obviously have a number of burning questions that they are dying to ask, but are given a too-short opportunity for Q&A. But that's minor--you won't find this much good information in one place elsewhere, especially at such an attractive price. Highly recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (C. Block)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
