Providing parents with the information they need to meet the needs of an elementary school aged child with learning differences, this title focuses more on the impact on family life than the disorders themselves. Featuring advice from psychologists/authors, as well as a discussion group comprised of parents who comment on realistic vignettes of day-to-day life, the topics covered include: diagnosis, medication, sibling rivalry, friends, and morning madness (or getting off to school on time). Reminding parents that learning differences and learning disabled are not the same, this useful guide teaches parents coping skills, advocates using support groups and other outside resources, and encourages them to be advocates for their children. Presented in an objective manner, the suggestions and ideas included here (and in the accompanying 79-page guide) may well prove to be very valuable for parents and children alike. Highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (L. Stevens)
