Combining a lecture format before a live audience with illustrative filmed vignettes, Parenting with Dr. Scoresby features noted child psychologist Dr. Lynn Scoresby explains how parents can help raise independent and successful children by recognizing, understanding and working within the various mental and physical developmental stages through which children pass. The 4-volume series opens with a general introductory program, followed by tapes devoted to birth to five years, six to eleven years, and twelve to adult. In addition to his academic background, Scoresby is also a dad with hands-on experience (a big plus in the credibility department) who's well aware of mistakes parents commonly make and full of suggestions for better parenting. An engaging presenter (each of the “hour plus” programs went by surprisingly quickly), Scoresby addresses challenges common to each age group and provides parents with the basics for creating a positive family environment that can be proactive in preventing or minimizing future problems. A no-nonsense, practical series, this set is highly recommended for parents as well as child development curricula, and will make a good complement to titles such as The Essentials of Discipline (VL-5/01), How to Behave So Your Children Will, Too (VL-5/00) and Surviving Your Adolescents (VL-5/00).
