This is no "First, He Cries" (an unfunny early SNL parody about a man's reaction to a partner's breast cancer) but rather a man's guide to understanding breast cancer that combines candid interviews with three couples, health professionals, and commentary from Ed Asner. Devoted to the real issues women face in battling breast cancer, and how the men in their lives can not only help, but also deal with their own emotions, Partners in Hope's strongest message is the importance of communication. Suggesting ways to positively channel the oftentimes typical male reaction of wanting to take control of the situation and tackle problems aggressively, the video encourages men to become immersed in the medical process, maintaining clear communication with doctors, and helping to monitor the treatment process with their loved one. In addition, the program discusses sensitive issues such as post-op intimacy and escape fantasies. An excellent complement to the many breast cancer programs aimed at women, this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)

This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
